THE EVALUATION PROCESS

Fees

The cost of evaluations ranges from $800 to $2,500, depending on the complexity of the issues involved. The fee will be determined at the beginning of the assessment process.

Payment by check or credit card is requested. Half of the payment is collected at the first meeting. The second half is due at the feedback session 2-3 weeks later.

I am not on any insurance panels, but I am happy to submit a bill electronically to the insurance company after the feedback session. Many PPO insurance plans will provide partial reimbursement. Any reimbursement by insurance is returned to the client. It is possible to get an estimate of reimbursement by calling the insurance company and asking how much they will reimburse for an "out of network provider" using the procedure code 96118 (neuropsychological evaluation code).

The Assessment process

Appointment times are scheduled in the mornings in an effort to get the child’s best performance. This may mean your child misses a few hours of school. Every effort is made for the child to have a positive experience by using praise and humor.

1) The first session lasts 2-3 hours. The initial 45-60 minutes involves an interview of the parents, with the child in the waiting room. After that, the child is brought into the room to begin the testing. The parent is asked to wait in the reception area and to fill out questionnaires. Please bring a snack and activities to occupy your child in the first session.

2) A second session is scheduled to complete the testing. It lasts between 2-3 hours.

3) With written permission, I contact teachers and other providers to obtain more information about your child. Often a classroom observation is conducted.

4) Approximately 2-3 weeks later, a report is completed. A feedback session is scheduled with the parents to go over the results.

Copies of the report can be faxed to other doctors and providers at the parents'  request.

Any subsequent meetings, such as with a school, cost an additional $200 per hour.
